What is Jazz dance?

Jazz just like any other dance style has many different forms and sub-styles. At DDC we teach  American Jazz which is a high-energy dance characterized by its fast-paced moves and sass. Jazz is an expressive form of dance with many types of artistic dance steps and footwork, each with a unique flare and technique. Jazz dance is as experimental, free-form, and fluid as jazz music. It's fusion, it's inventive, it's exuberant. Some of the most distinct characteristics of jazz dance are the use of strong movements and isolation, giving the dance an elegant, sassy, and fun feel. 


What are the benefits of learning Jazz dance?

The health and physical fitness benefits of jazz dance include increased strength, flexibility, coordination, and endurance. The athletic, full-bodied nature of jazz dance develops arm strength from floor work, leg strength from jumps, and core strength from coordinating the limbs. Jazz dance overall is a mood lifter, naturally putting a smile on the dancer's face while lighting the audience up.
